[ Bleary-eyed and half-asleep, Hei stares at his device from its hiding place under the pillows. Fishing it out on a stifled yawn, he's confronted with Jinora's device-code. He's confused for precisely two seconds before the realization hits. ]

[ Well. ]

[ Shit. ]

[ Nice going, Korra. ]

[The girl switches over to video, presumably in order to convey her disdain with a scowl.]

[ She'll be greeted to the sight of a rumple-haired and sleepy Li. Sitting up, he scratches an absent hand through his hair, repressing a twinge of irritation. It's too late at night -- early in the morning? -- to be dealing with this. ]

No. That was Korra. [ Should he make an excuse? Lie? Tell the truth? Eventually, he decides -- Fuck it. Let the kid draw her own conclusions. Clearing his throat, he offers a sheepish smile, ] She, um, borrowed my device.

[ That went better -- or worse -- than he expected. Hei ignores that prickle of annoyance at the fact that It's Ridiculous O'Clock at night and I'm being interrogated by a little girl about my sex life. Hei can check an assassination off his list before breakfast time. But he has no idea how to approach this subject. Usually, he'd just tell the irritant in question to shut up. Or silence them with a look. Or one hard slap. ]

[ But that's not how Li treats children. Finally, gentle but a little reproving, ]

That's sort of a personal question, isn't it Jinora?

[As far as Jinora's concerned, all questions are fair game when Korra wakes her up in the middle of the night. She shouldn't put Li on the spot, though.]

[ A little playful, but giving her a taste of her own medicine, all the same. See how annoying meddling can be? ]

[She's vaguely irritated on principle--how dare Li infer that she's up past her bedtime!--but she is sleepy. Not that Jinora will admit as much out loud.

The girl ends the communication and curls up in bed, too groggy to properly mull over Korra's apparent involvement with Li.]
